A Sudden (Prologue)
He went in the ambulance, half conscious, with the right temple of his, bleeding. Voices became blurry to him, and the only thing he could hear clearly was the sharp sound of the iron stretcher colliding with the edges. As he felt someone was slapping him on the face to keep him awake, he became more tired and gradually, fell into the mind of unconsciousness.
The slapping sound became animal tail flapping on the gravel ground. He was a dying fish, just out of the fisherman’s net. The sun was burning out every water particle in him, flies everywhere, seagulls waiting for him to die so that they would have their next meal. The fisherman was filling his truck full of his companions not far away. As the predator finished the last bucket of his trophy, he slowly walked towards him. He knew he couldn’t get away from this, but he still released every strength that he had to maybe get back to the water.
Then he did. At the last minute. While the poor fisherman loses his voice, he leaped gracefully with his agile body. Out of insecurity, he started to swim faster to avoid being caught again. He tried so hard to pass through water in resistance, or perhaps water passed through him. The joy of regaining freedom occupied his tiny body; there’s nothing else can stop him anymore.
Until a giant, stinging coral hit right on his head. A crisp sound of head bone breaking, his body was splashed in the water. There was no more chasing and excitement, just deadly silence down the bed, like when the man first tried to hold his breath at the swimming pool. When he couldn’t hold it anymore, he opened his eyes and saw the bright surgery light.
